India is a country of great diversity with a wide
range of landform types, including major mountain ranges, deserts, rich
agricultural plains, and hilly jungle regions. The country is divided
into three main geological regions: the Indo-Gangetic Plain, the Himalayas,
and the Peninsula region.
Highest peak is the Kanchenjunga at 8586 m above sea level in the
Himalayas. The capital is New Delhi; other major cities are
Bombay, Calcutta, Chandigarh, and Madras. The country's longest river is
the Brahmaputra the second longest is the Ganges. |
